Children’s Liturgy

The Children’s Liturgy of the Word program takes place during both our 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Sunday Masses from September to June. The Children’s Liturgy does not run during the summer.

There are two sessions: 1 for Junior Kindergarten & Senior Kindergarten children and one for Grade 1 & 2 children. Each session is run by two volunteer leaders per session, either a parent volunteer or a high school student.

The objective of Children’s Liturgy of the Word is to provide children with the opportunity to experience the word of God in a way that makes sense to them. Through songs, readings, guided questions and activities, the children are encouraged to talk about the liturgy and how God’s message can apply to their everyday lives. The session also provides parents with the opportunity to listen and reflect on the Sunday’s readings and homily without interruption.

The children proceed to the meeting rooms at the beginning of mass and return during the presentation of the gifts. Parents are welcome to join their child if he/she is hesitant in attending. We are in need of both parent and high school volunteers to lead the sessions. We are also in need of Grade 7 & 8 students to act as helpers. Volunteers are required to commit to 4 to 5 sessions per year; training package is provided. The sessions qualify for high school volunteer hours. If you would like to volunteer in this Ministry, please contact the parish office.
